Sam and Des Cox who foster through Slough Children’s Services Trust and are the Home Hub carers within the Trust’s Mockingbird scheme have recently been acknowledged for their incredible work supporting vulnerable children in Slough and other foster families by receiving a Make a Difference Award from BBC Three Counties Radio.
The Mockingbird Family Model offers an alternative fostering method which aims to improve placement stability, safety and permanency for children and young people. It also supports and helps to retain fosters carers, which ultimately leads to better outcomes for children looked after.
The scheme brings together up to ten foster families to form a ‘satellite family’ based around a single ‘Hub Home’. The Hub Home Carers provides support, guidance, advice and friendship to all the families in the constellation, including practical, emotional and peer support, as well as respite care and activities.
